Owings works on changeup, Rockies and Diamondbacks finish in 5-5 tie (AP)
Micah Owings is working on his changeup this spring, so the results in his first outing weren’t that important. The Arizona right-hander gave up two runs and two hits in two innings, and the Diamondbacks tied a Colorado Rockies split squad 5-5 Thursday in a rematch of last year’s NL championship series.

Contreras and Ramirez lead White Sox to 12-3 win over Rockies’ split squad (AP)
Jose Contreras was thrilled for his own fast start Thursday, and also that of fellow Cuban defector Alexei Ramirez. Contreras threw three solid innings and Ramirez, a shortstop with a shot at earning the starting second base job, had four hits as the Chicago White Sox beat the Colorado Rockies split squad 12-3 on Thursday.

Young closer Manny Corpas and Rockies agree to $8,025,000, 4-year contract (AP)
After only a half season as their closer, Manny Corpas agreed Thursday to an $8,025,000, four-year contract with the Colorado Rockies that could be worth up to $22,775,000 including escalators and team options for 2012 and 2013. The 25-year-old Panamanian right-hander replaced three-time All-Star Brian Fuentes as Colorado’s closer last season.
