Dish: Phillies wise not to meet Howard’s demands (SportingNews.com)

Ryan Howard’s production has fallen over the past two years. Here’s one opinion that the Phillies should not re-up with him after the season.

Kendrick leads Phillies to 7-4 win over Rockies (AP)

Kyle Kendrick pitched effectively in a career-best 7 1-3 innings, and Greg Dobbs and Pedro Feliz both drove in two runs as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Colorado Rockies 7-4 on Tuesday night. The Phillies have 42 runs and 46 hits in their last three games, all wins. Kendrick (4-2), using a sinking fastball to [...]

Utley has career-best 6 RBIs in Phillies’ win (AP)

Whenever Jamie Moyer takes the mound, the Philadelphia Phillies’ batters seem to make it easy for their veteran pitcher. Chase Utley drove in a career-best six runs, Moyer had a season-high seven strikeouts and the Phillies scored their most runs in nearly a decade in a 20-5 rout of the Colorado Rockies on Monday night.

Chase Utley drove in a career-best six runs, Jamie Moyer had a season-high seven strikeouts and the Philadelphia Phillies scored their most runs in nearly a decade, a 20-5 rout over the Colorado Rockies on Monday night. Gonzalez, Padres outlast Reds in 18 innings (AP)

The Florida Marlins and San Francisco Giants knew they were going to play two games. As for Cincinnati and San Diego, their “doubleheader” was unexpected. The lights were on and the sun was going down when Adrian Gonzalez hit a three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the 18th inning to give [...]

    Correction: Twins-Rockies (AP)

In stories May 17-18 about the Twins-Rockies game, The Associated Press erroneously reported that Colorado reliever Matt Herges threw two scoreless innings in picking up the win on May 17. Herges allowed two runs in the seventh inning.

Cook, Smith lead Rockies past slumping Mets 4-1 (AP)

Willie Randolph didn’t get the pick-me-up he needed Sunday when the New York Mets lost 4-1 to the Colorado Rockies, whose patchwork lineup included four recent minor league call-ups. One of them, Seth Smith, hit his first major league homer, a three-run shot off John Maine to back an impressive start by Aaron Cook (7-3).

Umpire injured in Phillies-Astros game (AP)

The Philadelphia-Houston game was delayed on Sunday when plate umpire Jerry Crawford was struck in the head by Carlos Lee’s bat. Lee fouled off a 2-2 pitch from Cole Hamels in the first inning and his bat smacked Crawford on the follow-through. Crawford took off his helmet and immediately jogged to the Astros dugout, where [...]

Rockies place Holliday on DL (AP)

The Colorado Rockies placed left fielder Matt Holliday on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, the latest injury to hit the defending National League champions. Holliday strained his hamstring running out a groundout to third in the ninth inning of the Rockies’ 9-2 loss to the New York Mets on Saturday. Outfielder Cory Sullivan was recalled [...]
